Tax Implications Vary by Platform

Not all prediction markets are created equal for tax purposes. The platform you trade on affects which tax treatments are available and how strong the argument is for each approach.

CFTC-regulated platforms like Kalshi have the strongest case for Section 1256 treatment, which offers the favorable 60/40 split. Unregulated platforms like Polymarket are better suited for capital gains or ordinary income treatment.

Our calculator automatically considers the platform when presenting tax method comparisons. We flag which treatments are more or less defensible based on the regulatory status of each platform you imported from.

Platforms FAQ

Which prediction market platforms do you support?

We currently support Kalshi (API + CSV), Polymarket (on-chain wallet + CSV), Robinhood (CSV), and DraftKings (CSV). FanDuel and Interactive Brokers are coming soon. You can also manually enter trades from any platform.

Can I combine trades from multiple platforms?

Yes. Import from as many platforms as you want in a single session. All trades are merged into one unified P&L dashboard with consolidated tax calculations. Cross-platform reporting is one of our core features.

How does the Kalshi API import work?

Enter your Kalshi email and password. We authenticate directly with Kalshi's API, download all your fills and settlements, then immediately discard your credentials. The entire process takes 5-15 seconds.

How does the Polymarket on-chain import work?

Enter your Polygon wallet address (0x...). We read your ERC-1155 conditional token transaction history directly from the Polygon blockchain. No login or API key needed — all data is publicly available on-chain.

What if my platform isn't listed?

You can use our generic CSV import or manual entry feature. As long as you can provide the trade date, market name, side, quantity, price, and fees, we can calculate your P&L and tax obligations.

Do all platforms issue 1099 forms?

No. Kalshi and Robinhood issue 1099 forms, but Polymarket does not. Regardless of whether you receive a 1099, you are required to report all prediction market income. Our tool generates the IRS forms you need for any platform.

Does the platform affect which tax method I should use?

Yes. The platform's regulatory status impacts which tax treatments are defensible. Kalshi (CFTC-regulated) has the strongest Section 1256 argument. Polymarket (unregulated) is better suited for capital gains or ordinary income. We flag risk levels for each method based on your platforms.
