About

Prediction markets are growing fast. Kalshi, Polymarket, Robinhood, and others have brought event trading to millions of people. But when tax season hits, traders are on their own.

The IRS hasn't issued clear guidance on how prediction market profits should be taxed. CPAs charge hundreds of dollars and often aren't familiar with event contracts. Existing tax software like TurboTax and H&R Block doesn't support these platforms at all.

We built predictiontaxes.com to fix that. One tool that imports your trades from every platform, calculates your P&L, compares all four possible tax treatments side-by-side, and generates the IRS forms you need to file correctly.

What We Do

predictiontaxes.com is a specialized tax calculator built exclusively for prediction market traders. We handle the entire workflow from raw trade data to IRS-ready PDF forms:

Import trades via API, on-chain wallet, or CSV upload from any platform
Calculate profit & loss per position using FIFO cost basis
Compare all 4 IRS-defensible tax treatments with exact dollar amounts
Generate pre-filled Form 8949, Schedule D, Form 6781, and CPA summary letters
Consolidate trades across multiple platforms into a single unified report

Frequently Asked Questions

Who built predictiontaxes.com?

We're a small team of developers and tax researchers who trade on prediction markets ourselves. We built this tool because we needed it — and realized every other trader did too.

Is predictiontaxes.com free?

Yes. Importing trades, viewing your P&L, and comparing all 4 tax methods is completely free. We charge a one-time fee only if you want to download pre-filled IRS PDF forms.

Do you store my data?

No. All calculations happen in your browser. We don't store your trades, personal information, or platform credentials on any server. If you connect to Kalshi's API, your credentials are used once to fetch data and then discarded.

Is this tax advice?

No. predictiontaxes.com provides tax calculations and generates IRS forms, but we are not CPAs, tax attorneys, or financial advisors. We strongly recommend consulting a qualified tax professional before filing, especially for aggressive positions like Section 1256.

How accurate are the calculations?

We use FIFO cost basis, the IRS default method, and follow standard tax rules for each of the 4 treatment methods. Our calculations match what a CPA would compute given the same trade data. However, individual tax situations vary — your CPA may make adjustments based on your overall return.

What platforms do you support?

We currently support Kalshi (API + CSV), Polymarket (on-chain wallet + CSV), Robinhood (CSV), and DraftKings (CSV). FanDuel and Interactive Brokers support is coming soon. You can also manually enter trades from any platform.
