Luxembourg Tax FAQ

How are prediction markets taxed in Luxembourg?

Luxembourg has two main treatments: (1) Gambling — tax-free for casual bettors, (2) Speculative gains — if held less than 6 months, half of the gain is included in taxable income at progressive rates (up to 42%).

What is the 6-month holding rule?

Gains on assets held for less than 6 months are considered speculative (bénéfice de spéculation). Only half of the gain is included in taxable income. Assets held longer than 6 months are generally tax-free.

Are gambling winnings tax-free?

Generally yes. Casual gambling/betting winnings are not taxable in Luxembourg. If prediction market trading is considered recreational betting, no tax applies.

PredictionTax provides general guidance only. Luxembourg tax rules for prediction markets are uncertain. Consult a Luxembourg tax advisor (conseil fiscal) before filing.
