Belgium Tax FAQ

How are prediction markets taxed in Belgium?

Belgium has three possible treatments: (1) Gambling — tax-free for casual bettors, (2) Speculative income — 33% flat rate on occasional speculation, (3) Professional income — progressive rates (25-50%) if it constitutes a regular business activity.

How is the classification determined?

It depends on trading frequency, amounts, whether it supplements your income, and whether it shows professional characteristics. Casual prediction market trading is generally gambling (tax-free).

What is speculative income (divers inkomen)?

Income from speculation that goes beyond normal asset management but is not a professional activity. Taxed at 33% flat. This is a gray area and classification is fact-dependent.

PredictionTax provides general guidance only. Belgian tax classification for prediction markets is uncertain. Consult a Belgian tax advisor (belastingadviseur) before filing.
